Meet our CF Indo Staff
It is with much anticipation and excitement that we introduce you to our Indonesian staff. At the start of Spring we began recruiting and interviewing in search for potential candidates who would make crucial and beneficial members of our CF Indonesia staff. With the hiring process behind us, the end result is an amazing team of professionals who fit perfectly into our CF family--we feel as if the team was formed prior to us even knowing them. More recently, the selected group underwent two weeks of intensive training, which was granted to us by Transitions Global, a world leader in aftercare methodologies for girls who have been rescued from forced prostitution. We are excited to see them so well prepared for the tasks and challenges that lie ahead of them.
Pictured below is our CF Indonesia Staff, including the Director of Regional Operations, the Regional Director of Care, Center Director, Director of Care, Social Worker, Administrator, and Director of Security and Transportation. In addition to those pictured below, we have added two house moms and will be bringing on two additional caseworkers when the first house approaches capacity.
Our Center Director and Business Manager posted a telling update to her Facebook page on the evening of her hire: “Thank you, Lord. You have made my dreams come true.”

Going Overseas: Becky Davis
The Compassion First Indonesia team will be joined by another expat this summer when Becky Davis deploys. Becky has served on the pastoral staff at Beaverton Foursquare for more than 12 years both as a youth pastor and, more recently, as the Director of Community Outreach.
Becky began her transition toward international deployment in the middle of last year. She had many other opportunities and job offers to choose from, but in November she announced that she wanted to be a part of our team in Indonesia. THAT WAS WHEN WE KNEW GOD WAS BEING GOOD TO US!
Becky will oversee our international care staff and will be instrumental in the expansion of our operations in Indonesia. She is already enjoying the favor of national partners and GPDI church leaders, all of whom are very encouraged to have her coming in August.

Volunteer Spotlight: Rick Randall
"I am basically fairly lazy--I would rather be a couch potato." Those words don’t exactly scream triathlon athlete, yet they were spoken by CF Racer Rick Randall, who recently competed in the Blue Lake Triathlon, an Olympic distance event that included a one mile swim, 25 mile bike ride and 6.5 mile run. If any of you readers participate in racing events, you are familiar with the blood, sweat and tears poured into hours of regimental training schedules, diets and social fasts. Perhaps Rick isn’t quite as lazy as he initially let on!
According to Rick, a conversation with a friend sparked in him a desire to ensure that his time spent training and racing made a difference. After hearing Compassion First president Mike Mercer speak on the plight of sexually trafficked children, Rick decided to partner with Compassion First and "run for the sake of others."
This partnership between Rick and Compassion First began last year. Rick kicked off 2009 with Portland, Oregon's "First Run 5K" as well as the Cascade Lake’s 216.6-mile relay in central Oregon. He also helped set up our online fundraising tool, which makes it easy for CF Racers to raise sponsorship for the cause while participating in any racing event. Rick learned a long time ago that even though he isn't always motivated, racing for others gives him the extra energy and motivation he needs to train and finish strong.
As a CF Racer, Rick says, "some donate, some pray; both are very much appreciated." Perhaps we should add that some race, and that we’re incredibly grateful to have people like Rick racing for the sake of others.
Making Preparations for our“Numbers to Names” Portland Banquet
The theme of this year’s banquet is “Coming Home.” During the banquet we will celebrate the new beginnings represented by the opening of our first shelter and cast a vision for our expansion. It will take place on Sunday, November 21st at the Red Lion Hotel on the River in Jantzen Beach, Oregon. We are preparing for up to 1,100 attendees.
If you would like to participate on the committee organizing this event, or if you would like to sponsor or host a table, please contact Sarah Moshofsky (smoshofsky@compassionfirst.org). If you are interested in helping procure items for our silent auction please contact Bickey Lloyd (five@compassionfirst.org). If you have an interest in the broader corporate sponsorship, please contact Mike Mercer at mcm@compassionfirst.org.
CF Golf Marathon 2010
Portland, Oregon was host to our first ever 100-hole Golf Marathon, and it was an amazing success (and unbelievably fun). CF President, Mike Mercer christened it, “The greatest day of my life; we played golf all day long and then kept playing.”
For a full report on the day, click here.
The success of this event has motivated us to hold Golf Marathons in other cities. If you’re a golfer, an organizer, or anyone willing to help us run a tournament elsewhere, please contact Bickey Lloyd (five@compassionfirst.org).
